Even in this heated political season, we can all still agree on one thing: 2020 has been hard! We’ve had to watch restaurants, stores, and other institutions we’ve come to rely on close their doors forever. And all that may have you wondering about another type of institution – your financial one.
This year school looks a little different for students and parents alike. Zoom calls, tech support, remote learning, rotating class groups and times, it’s chaotic. Additionally, you may have noticed you have to buy more or less school supplies or perhaps you need to buy a new computer or upgrade your internet to support all those video calls.
Every day, thousands of people fall victim to fraudulent emails, texts and calls from scammers pretending to be their bank. And in this time of expanded use of online banking, the problem is only growing worse. In fact, the Federal Trade Commission’s report on fraud estimates that American consumers lost a staggering $1.9 billion to these phishing schemes and other fraud in 2019 — and the ongoing pandemic has only increased the threat. Imagine where we are in 2020.
It’s time to put scammers in their place.
Everyone has been paying attention lately to what they want to keep in their lives (or house) and get rid of. After the Marie Kondo trend – many people took to clearing out their closets and simplifying their lives. Enter the pandemic, which has further caused us to adjust many things in our lives: our priorities, activities, jobs, and wardrobes (some of us now live in sweatpants, 24/7). But it’s also reaffirmed one our most important priorities – the health and wellbeing of our planet and getting rid of things in our lives that don’t bring us joy.
